THE CUPBOARD OF DR. CALIBANI pt.3
Confession time, folks: I have no idea what goes on in these stories.
Like Chester Gould and Bill Watterson, two of my comic heroes, I seldom, if ever, write stories knowing how they’re going to end or even progress. Therefore it’s often just as much of a surprise to me as to the readers when weird stuff happens. That said, I have no idea what’s going on in the comic above and even I’m stupefied. I hope you will all join me in a slow head shake, thinking, “…what the hell is going on?”
I’ll give a prize sketch to the first person to name all of the songs Scapula is blathering out.

I would sure love to win a prize on an early Sunday morning to console my non-posting soul. Ok…here are my guesses.
1) “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”~ Cyndi Lauper
2) “You Spin Me Round”~ Dead Or Alive (or Jess Simpson or Flo-Rida)
3) “Conga”~ Gloria Estefan
And I liked today’s comic. It was properly silly and idiotic.

Very good, George!…but there’s still one more song in there (panel 5, bottom left). Can you guess it in time before someone else does?
[okay, I'll just give two people sketches...I love my readers too much to screw wit'em!]

Umm…. “I Can’t Wait” by Nu-Shooz? I don’t know how I missed that one.

Hey, those are great songs!
My guesses…
1. “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper
2. “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” by Dead or Alive
3. “I Can’t Wait” by Nu Shooz
4. “Conga” by Miami Sound Machine
Maybe I can share the prize with George.

I’m having visions of Scapula’s very own top 40 show (Casey Kasem style)! Hahaha … that would be one interesting broadcast!
Is the last one “I Can’t Wait” – Nu Shooz? I’m not gonna lie, though D.H. – while I recognized George’s picks right away I totally cheated / rocked Google in an attempt to claim sweet, sweet sketch No. 2. If I’m right does this invalidate my entry?!

@George Got it, man! I’ll send you your sketch…and I hope you can wait! Da-dum-dum-dum-DUM-dum-DUM!
@David Looks like George got them first, but because there was a slight delay in the last answer I’ll send you a prize sketch as well. Fair’s fair…or maybe I’m just a Pinko cartoonist!
@Spilled Inky Hmmm…cheating, cheating….tell you what, go on YouTube, watch the Mystery Science Theater 3000 short on “Cheating” and I’ll send you a consolation sketch. I’m nothing if not flexible!

I’ll go with everyone elses answers. Actually I didn’t know Conga until I saw the answer and then I was like…damn I should have known that.
March 14th, 2010 at 6:22 pm
Don’t worry about it, Bearman; there’s actually a couple of typos in the “Conga” panel, so I don’t blame anyone for missing it!

Forget student council! I’d rather have a D.H. sketch (although I do feel bad because it looks like I’ve created more work for you)! =0

Dada, you da best!
March 14th, 2010 at 9:10 pm
So glad you guys enjoy (I’ll have to award more prizes in future posts…see, kiddies? Everyone’s a winna!). Thank you for playing, and if anyone has a song request send ‘em my way!
March 14th, 2010 at 9:25 pm
Thank you, thank you! I feel so honored!

I dig the cooper black font in the last panel. It’s all over my page.
March 15th, 2010 at 9:14 am
@Dan I like the cooper black font as well; it looks nice and reminds me of Alice Cooper!

HA! There’s this diner my wife and I go to that has little juke boxes by the tables. It’s filled with 80’s stuff and I’m sure I’ve seen almost all of those songs listed.
Oh, and the first thing that popped into my head at that last panel was the joke, “What’s the sound of one hand clapping?” LOL!
March 15th, 2010 at 11:54 am
@ David Is that Johnny Rocket’s you’re talking about? I’ve never been there, but it seems like it would have a lot of throwback music and stuff.
Now you can go there, turn on the juke box and dance around just like Scapula!
As for the slow clapping…well, it’s the sound that would frighten any stage performer, but when you’re as pathetic as Dr. Calibani you take what you can get!

THIS is what happens when you show up fashionably late! You miss the games and prizes!! o.O …it’s my own damn fault!

No need to worry, jynksie…uh…next week I’ll raffle off an official pair of SCAPULA dirty socks! You may be a lucky lotto winner yet!
